Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is a condition where extra bone forms along edge of the joint forming bones (femur head or acetabulum). They cause mechanical impingement against each other on movement (cam or pincer lesion). It can occur in relation to sports related injury or secondary to abnormal anatomy. It leads to groin pain, limp and difficulty in movement. It can have associated soft tissue damage in the structure lining the edge of the bone forming socket (labrum). You will be assessed by our specialist who would confirm the diagnosis with the help of MRI scan. Initially, you will be given physical therapy and medical treatment. Non-resolution of symptoms may require a surgical treatment which would include removal of extra bone with repair or debridement of the labrum using minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery (hip arthroscopy).
