Meniscus tear

The meniscus is a cushioning pad between the bones in the knee joint. It is a specialised tissue inside the knee which serves an important function. It is often referred to as the shock absorber in the knee. A tear in the meniscus can cause pain, swelling, clicks, locking and difficulty with knee movement. Treatment for a meniscal tear may include physical therapy, pain relievers, and in some cases, surgical repair of the tear.

Cause

It is often the result of injury such as fall, sporting injuries etc.

Knee swelling, pain, locking of the knee, catching, giving way of the knee

Given the very important function of the meniscus in the normal functioning of the knee, meniscus tears need the utmost attention and meticulous treatment.

Partial Meniscectomy- generally reserved for irreparable tears and meniscus tears in older age group
