Patellofemoral instability

PFPS is a condition characterized by pain in the front of the knee (anterior knee pain), often caused by poor relation of the kneecap with thigh bone (patellar maltracking). It usually happens due to underlying bony malalignment or soft tissue damage. Your specialist will evaluate you clinically and obtain necessary investigation such as MRI or CT scan to assess the underlying pathology. Treatment may include physical therapy, pain relievers, and assistive devices, such as braces. In severe cases, surgery may be recommended which may involve bony surgery to resolve malalignment (osteotomy) or soft tissue repair (ligament repair or reconstruction).
