Fixation of a fracture at the upper part of arm bone (proximal humerus) is performed with either plate or nail or sutures, depending on the fracture configuration. Similarly, middle of the arm bone fractures (humeral shaft fracture) are fixed with either a plate or nail. Sometimes, your surgeon may need to augment the fracture with a bone graft which could be a synthetic (bone graft substitute) or your own bone (autologous bone graft) from another part of your body. Following surgery, you will be given arm support and physical therapy.
