Tendon transfer

Tendon transfer surgery involves a healthy tendon being transferred to compensate for the loss of another tendon. This is commonly used to treat an irreparable rotator cuff tear not suitable for superior capsular reconstruction, and especially in young patients who are not suitable for joint replacement surgery. This is an open procedure where your surgeon will perform a tendon transfer using one of the muscles (trapezius or latissimus dorsi or pectoralis major tendon to replace rotator cuff muscle function. This surgery is also advised for patients with winging scapula, where the lost muscle function is regained by transferring nearby tendons such as pectoralis major tendon, or by performing modified Eden-Lange transfer.
