Interposition arthroplasty

Interposition arthroplasty of the elbow joint is performed for patients where total elbow replacement is not indicated as in young active patients. In this procedure, a biological tissue (graft taken usually from thigh) is interposed between arm bone (humerus) and forearm bone (ulna) which provides a smooth surface for bones to glide allowing painless movement. Usually, this procedure improves symptoms for about 5-15 years, when a revision surgery in form of total elbow replacement can be considered.
