Triceps muscle lies in posterior aspect of the arm and provides strength to the joint. A rupture of the lower end of triceps muscle (triceps tendon) at the elbow occurs especially in sportspersons and manual workers, however less commonly than distal biceps tendon rupture. It leads to weakness of the elbow and reduced function. The rupture is well tolerated in elderly people with limited functional demand, however in young active adults, surgical repair (triceps tendon repair) is recommended to improve elbow function.
